3/3/17

Hope everyone enjoyed a terrific winter break - busy first week back to school for the 5th graders.  In ELA - the 5th graders turned their attention to nonfiction texts. We read two articles on Newton's Laws of Motion in the NY Progress Book.  Key ideas included:  explicit and implicit statements, main ideas, summarizing and finding specific text evidence.   In writing, the 5th graders are working on writing personal narratives.  They brainstormed life events and will write 4/5 personal narratives to weave into an autobiographical piece.

Reminder:  SQUIRT projects are due on March 31st.  Students will be expected to turn in his/her project, two books recommendations and the completed Status sheet.  I am in the process of conferencing with students to check on their progress.  Thank you in advance for the support!

In Social Studies - we completed our unit on Colonization.  We will begin our investigation into tensions that lead to the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary War next week.

Kudos to 5O for the wonderful Ash Wednesday Mass - they were awesome with only two days practice!
